Governing Body
We can only have one Twitter account linked to the website, so we'll have to just tell you about ours - @StPaulsWaldenSchoolGB
According to the Department for Education, the purpose of our governing body is to provide confident and strong strategic leadership which leads to robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance. We have three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Governing bodies can choose how to fulfil these functions.
At present St Paul’s Walden School governing body uses a sub-committee model with individual governors also linked to particular elements of the school’s work and priorities.
We have two main subcommittees which are Standards and Resources and we hold regular FGB meetings throughout the academic year.. Standards sub-committee deals with the academic and curricular elements of the school. The Resources sub-committee monitors finances and sets the school’s budget, in addition to overseeing the maintenance and improvement of the school’s building and grounds.
New governors should attend Induction, Safeguarding and GDPR Training as soon as possible after they join the Governing Board. This training can be undertaken in person or on-line, as we subscribe to both services offered by Herts for Learning. Once in the role, governors can continue to improve their skills and knowledge by taking advantage of various training courses available, to the benefit of both the school and the governing body. The school's motto of 'Growing and Learning Together' applies to us too.
Our aim is to work hard to support the school and the wider community, through various different mechanisms, including attendance at various school functions throughout the academic year.
If you are interested in joining the governing body, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Governing Body or the Headteacher for more information.
